Delta Search Labs Accelerates Lockheed-Martin Technology Development Roadmap in the Systems Integration, Aeronautics and Space Systems Industries
Cambridge, MA-Based Idea Realization Facility Exposes High-Performance Computing and Visualization Capabilities to Key Lockheed Martin Business Units
Cambridge, MA - May 13, 2002 - Delta Search Labs today announced that Lockheed Martin has selected Delta Search Labs, a leader in commercial supercomputing power and three-dimensional visualization, to identify potential uses for its technologies, tools and facilities to advance the design, development, test and training processes in three Lockheed Martin core business areas. The collaboration seeks to accelerate technology innovation and application development in the systems integration, aeronautics and space systems industries, bringing to Lockheed Martin a competitive edge in future development initiatives.
As part of the agreement, Delta Search Labs will support Lockheed Martin in identifying opportunities where shared resources and expertise will pay off both in terms of cost savings and accelerated innovation. Initially, the companies will evaluate ways to leverage Delta Search Labs' supercomputing and visualization capabilities to create advanced simulation environments for engineering and testing of defense applications. For example, Delta Search Labs' integrated facility would allow Lockheed Martin to simulate complex engineering environments such as the airflow over an airplane wing and to interact with the simulation in real time. Within a single session, engineers would be able to stand inside the airflow, manipulate environmental conditions, make design changes to the surface of the wing and see the results of those changes.
"Our collaboration with Delta Search Labs will help to further our mission of bringing new systems-based possibilities and opportunities to our customers. As a leading integrator of 21st century technologies, we are confident that Delta Search Labs' dedication to research, relevant experience, and exploration capabilities will support our strategic focus in critical technology areas such as optical computing, virtual environments and advanced software technology," said Dr. Malcolm O' Neill, CTO, Lockheed Martin.
'Today's increasingly complex development environment demands the fastest and most advanced supercomputers. Delta Search Labs is building a supercomputer farm that will be able to solve the most elaborate problems within realistic timescales,' said Kamal Jaffrey, CEO, Delta Search Labs. 'Nevertheless, the cost of assembling, maintaining and using these technologies places them well beyond the reach of most organizations. Our facility places this caliber of equipment at the disposal of our strategic partners,' he continued.
Delta Search Labs applies its advanced supercomputing capability and experienced academic faculty in three main areas of activity:
- Technical Services: Offering supercomputing, visualization and related tools to partners and customers, including four capability-class, cutting-edge supercomputers and the world's first all-digital CAVE for immersive visualization;
- Consulting Services: Collaborating with companies to optimize the application of existing and emerging technologies; and
- Technology Commercialization: Realizing value from new technologies developed independently or with select partners in key industries including aerospace, automotive and heavy engineering, petroleum and energy, biotechnology, information technology, media and entertainment, insurance and finance, and environmental protection.
